Thursday, January 19th

Twin Mill Boarders

We learned this morning that Revel has tested positive for equine coronavirus. He has been at Wilhite and Frees’ clinic receiving care since Friday, January 13th and is recovering well. Puddin’ may have had the virus as well, he has returned to Twin Mill, but will be under a strict quarantine for 21 days.  We will try to avoid any cross-contamination by using separate equipment and turnout during this time.  We will also be actively watching all of the horses for symptoms which include a fever above 102, lack of appetite, and lethargy.  Typically these symptoms will resolve in 1-4 days with minimal treatment. Other less common symptoms are diarrhea and signs of mild colic.

The virus is spread from horse to horse through fecal-oral transmission.

Please help control the spread of the virus:
  • Monitor your own horse and notify us of any symptoms
  • Limit travel
  • Avoid contact with the quarantined horses (yourself and your horse)
  • Avoid sharing feed pans and equipment
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, we are actively working with the vets to handle this in the best way possible.
